BBN Consulting supported the Lismore City Council Flood Restoration Portfolio by completing targeted soil sampling and in situ waste classification for the Snow Street and CBD Transit Centre pump station works.

The assessment defined where contamination was present, determined which material could be reused and identified soil requiring disposal. By interpreting sampling results against construction plans and excavation depths, BBN helped avoid over-classification and supported practical material management during construction.

01. PROJECT CONSIDERATIONS
» Potential contamination within existing fill material
» Elevated benzo(a)pyrene identified at the CBD Transit Centre site
» Detailed testing required to avoid over-classifying suitable material
» Results needed to align with construction plans and excavation depths
» Clear waste classification advice required to guide construction

02. VALUE DELIVERED
» Helped save Council approximately $500,000 in landfill disposal fees
» Identified specific areas of contamination rather than over-classifying the full site
» Enabled large volumes of suitable material to be classified as ENM for beneficial reuse
» Reduced the volume of soil requiring landfill disposal
» Supported practical construction planning through clear waste classification advice
